Baumgartenet
Gaston by William Saroyan
Read the story "Gaston" (click here) and think about these questions:

1.      At the beginning of the story, the father is described from his young daughter’s point of
view. What does she think of him? Why does he seem like such a stranger?

2.      What does the father do to change his daughter’s opinion of the insect that they find in
the peach?

3.      What symbols are there in the story?

4.      What makes the daughter lose sympathy for the insect?

5.      At the end of the story, why does the father feel “a little . . . like Gaston”?

6.      What do you know about this family?

Present your ideas about the story in any way you like:

You may do one or more of these:

1.      Answer the questions in writing.

2.      Create a Powerpoint presentation.

3.      Create a play about the story.

4.      Draw a poster.
