    Person of the Year Project
Introduction

In this project, you will:

  • learn about the personal qualities and accomplishments of famous, successful, great or important people.
  • do research and and take notes about a person you think deserves to get the title "Person of the Year".
  • write a resume* for the person you chose
  • present your "Person of the Year"
  • A jury made up of teachers, students and school administration will vote on the "Person of the Year".

    *When you have finished doing your project, you'll write a resume for yourself too!
     

    Stage 1: Predicting the Qualities of Great People

    1. Write the title of the project and your name on a page (you can use Word or a regular page).
    2. Write "Stage 1 - Predicting the Qualities of Great People".
    3. Copy (from the list below) the qualities that you think apply to great, important, famous people in general:
    4. Show your work to your teacher.

    Stage 2: Choosing a "Person of the Year"

     
    1. Choose a famous, successful, great or important person to learn about. Use this site to help you choose:

    2. YOUR "PERSON OF THE YEAR" MAY BE SOMEONE WHO ISN'T FAMOUS. IT MAY BE SOMEONE YOU KNOW OR HAVE HEARD ABOUT, OR EVEN SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY.
    3. Write "Stage 2 - Choosing a Person of the Year" at the top of your page.
    4. Write the name of the person you have chosen for your project.
    5. Write a few sentences about why you chose this person for your project.

    Stage 3: Writing a Report and a Resume

     
      1. Use Google to find material about the person you chose.
      2. Write "Stage 3 - Writing a Report and a Resume" at the top of your page.
      3. Write a resume for this person. Click here to see a sample resume for Eleanor Roosevelt
      4. Write a paragraph about each of these:
        • the person's qualities. (see Stage 1 for a list of qualities).
        • the ways in which the life was remarkable, surprising or admirable.
        • the human qualities that were most influential in shaping the way this person lived and influenced his or her times.
        • the most important lesson/s you might learn from the way this person lived.
        • Was your person a "hero?" Why? Why not? How is a hero different from a celebrity?
        • Write a paragraph explaining why you think this person deserves to be chosen as the "Person of the Year".

    Important: Please WRITE IN YOUR OWN WORDS ONLY! Please do not copy directly from the Internet.

    Stage 4: Presenting Your Work

     
      1. Present your work in writing: It should include:
        • Cover page. Title of project, your name, class, date.
        • Table of contents.
        • Introduction. (Introduce your Person of the Year.)
        • Sections of the Project (Include here stages 1, 2 and 3 of the project that you did)
        • Bibliography. (Don't forget to cite all the sources and internet sites you used in your project)
        • Reflection. Write a page in which you express what you learned/gained through doing this project. Each person of the group must write his/her OWN PAGE!
        • Division of work: This should be a page which explains exactly what each person of the group did in the project.
        • Appendices.
        • Illustrations.
      2. Sign the Person of the Year Feedback Page
      3. View the Person of the YearFeedback Page
      4. Create a powerpoint presentation from the person's resume and present it orally to the rest of the class.

     I wrote a paragraph explaining why I think this person deserves to be chosen as the "Person of the Year".

     I wrote a cover page including the title of project, my name, class, date.

     I wrote an introduction. (Introduce your Person of the Year.)
     I included all the sections of the project (stages 1, 2 and 3)
     I wrote a bibliography. (the internet sites I used in my project)
